In most cases we recommend a 2 man tent instead of a 1 man tent, to allow extra room for your gear and to stop a potential 2 man squeeze inside a small tent. However, a 2 man tent can fit up to two people, but in some models would be so snug with 2 people, that effectively they are 1 person, solo tents.
If you’re backpacking, you are likely to have a sizeable rucksack, plus your boots. You may also have bad weather gear you need to keep inside with you. If you are two large men travelling together, its going to be a squeeze. However, these 2 man tents would be quite comfortable when used as a one man tent by one man plus his gear!
As well as being fairly light to carry; you could be looking at technical backpacking tents recommended for the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme or other similar expeditions, or you could be searching for a simple, reasonably priced 1 berth tent – either way we should be able to help you.
