The insulating nature of the (normally) fleece carpets helps to keep the tent warmer. It is certainly a lot easier to persuade the family to take their shoes off before entering the tent if the floor isn't cold and mucky and you have a nice cosy tent carpet down! The fleece top is normally backed with waterproof polyethylene, and sandwiched with a thin layer of foam for insulation.
A tent carpet can turn your family holiday tent into a home from home – you probably wouldn’t want one when backpacking, but camping with a couple of children a tent carpet can be a game changer! It provides extra insulation and a cosier feel to your tent, without adding too much to the weight in the boot, as tent carpets are quite lightweight item
