In this blog, we’ll discuss the best products for reproofing waterproof jackets so you can stay dry and comfortable on all your outdoor adventures!

What is Reproofing?

Reproofing a waterproof jacket is a crucial process that restores its water-repellent finish, ensuring it keeps you dry. Over time, dirt, oils, and regular wear can cause the Durable Water-repellent (DWR) coating to degrade, leading the fabric to absorb water instead of repelling it. By understanding and performing this process, you can maintain the effectiveness of your gear.

Reproofing helps revive this protective layer, allowing water to bead up and roll off the jacket rather than soak in. If you notice your coat's fabric absorbing rather than repelling water, it's time to reproof it!

Regularly reproofing your waterproof gear will keep it performing at its best and extend its lifespan, ensuring you stay nice and dry on your next adventure!

How to reproof a Waterproof Jacket

Reproofing a jacket is a straightforward task that anyone can do. You will need a specialist wash-in or spray-on treatment. For this blog, we used the Grangers 2-in-1 wash-and-repel treatment. This treatment cleans the jacket and reapplies a new DWR (durable water-repellent) coating, making the process simple and effective.

  1. Pour the product directly into the washing machine's detergent drawer. We recommend reproofing multiple items separately so the spray has time to work.
  2.  Wash the item on a complete cycle at 30 degrees or inline with the garment care instructions
  3. Air-dry or tumble dry the garment if the care label instructions allows
  4. Leave the garment for 24 hours before use
