4 Ways to Take Care of your Caravan
Are you new to caravanning and want to make the most of it? Owning a caravan can be very exciting, but maintaining it can also be overwhelming.
Keeping it clean and in working order requires some planning, so read on to learn how to take care of your caravan.
This guide outlines four ways to take care of your caravan and keep it looking spick and spam for years to come!
1- Service it regularly
Regular servicing of your caravan is an important part of owning a home on wheels. Like your car, your caravan goes through a lot and needs to be checked to ensure it is all in good working order before use.
Caravan services will examine the motoring side of your caravan and check for water, gas, and electrical problems. We recommend taking your vehicle to a reputable garage rather than attempting to service it yourself.
2 - Clean inside and out!
To maintain the value of your caravan, you need to keep it clean regularly. If you're a summer camper, consider taking care during the winter months to ensure it's ready to use when summer rolls around. Dusting, hoovering, and decluttering are important measures for keeping your caravan clean and tidy.
Wash and wax your caravan after use to remove debris, leaves, and grime buildup. You should wax your caravan a few times a year, especially before leaving it in storage for the winter. Waxing keeps the outside of your caravan looking shiny and new.
3 - Cover it up!
Covering your caravan when not in use will prevent moisture buildup and reduce the risk of mould and mildew. No one likes the smell of mould in an old caravan, so take the precautionary steps and cover your caravan during the cold and wet months!
Caravan covers also provide a barrier against UV rays and prevent fading over time. Particularly useful for coloured camper vans or two-tone caravans, putting a cover over your caravan will extend its life span and maintain its value.
4 - Take it for a test run
Servicing and keeping it clean is all well and good, but does everything work correctly and efficiently when on the road? It's important you take your caravan for a test run every once in a while and before a big trip to check everything is in working order.
Taking your caravan away for one night will determine if anything needs to be fixed before your next caravan holiday. If you have DIY’d your vehicle, then checking things like soft-closing cupboards and tightening taps will be beneficial.
Sleeping, living, and driving your caravan is the ultimate test, and you have time to purchase replacements in advance instead of realising you need a new tap the day you depart!
Checking the outside is just as important as checking the inside, and with RAC’s handy checklist, you will be on the road in no time! Lights, tyres, mirrors, and the towbar all need TLC, so check out the attachment below for their handy guide.
